It is time to kick off summer "Encounter Style!" We always have a lot of fun at our picnics and we want you to join in. Guest are always welcome so bring your family and friends.
We will not do our typical gathering at the church building this Sunday. Instead, our church family and guest will be meeting up at one of the great parks in the J-town area.
Charlie Vettiner Park
At the shelter near the old / upper tennis courts. Almost at the top of the hill.
5550 Charlie Vettiner Park Rd.
Louisville, KY 40299
The church will provide hamburgers, hotdogs, buns, condiments, lemonade, water, ice, and paper products.
We are asking you to bring side dishes and desserts. You are welcome to bring anything you want but we generally divide it up by last name like this.
A to G - please bring a dessert
H to Z - please bring a side dish
Historically we have more desserts than side dishes so we encourage you to bring a side to balance the meal. We typically have an over abundance of chips so, if possible, please select a different food item to bring.
Examples of side dishes include green beans, baked beans, mashed potatoes, green bean casserole, mac and cheese, coleslaw, cut melon bowl, grapes, cut veggies or veggie trays, potato salad, tossed salad with dressing, pasta salad, broccoli slaw, fruit bowl/salad, etc.
Servers will be assisting (cafeteria style) with the food for picnickers’ first time through the line. We ask that parents not allow their children to handle food in the serving line until after everyone has had an opportunity to fill their plate.
We need several individuals to grill the meat and individuals willing to assist in organizing the food table and serving the food. Also with clean up. If you would like to bless others in this way please contact the picnic coordinator, Tom Dill.
Other Items To Bring
The park has some basic amenities but seating is limited. Here is a list of items you may consider bringing to make your time more comfortable and enjoyable.
Lawn / camping chairs
Blanket / tarp to sit on
Small folding table
Soft drink of choice
FUN & GAMES
Softball & glove(s)
Board games like chess & checkers
Charlie Vettiner Park provides tennis courts, basketball court, disc golf, and wide open hillside fields. We also encourage folks to bring yard games and board games. If sitting in a chair and enjoying some conversation is more your speed then there is a shade tree with your name on it.
While thee are no formal organized activities, we do have a history of bag races, 3-legged races, and tug-of-war. It's gonna be fun!
